Important Review

Miles Drinkish sent along a review he found about a bar called Holiday Cocktail Lounge:

Holiday Cocktail Lounge
  • 75 Saint Marks Place (Cross Street: Between First Avenue and Second Avenue)
  • New York, NY 10003-7944
  • (212) 777-9637
  • Directions: 6 at Astor Place

    Editorial Review by Lance Esplund

    In Short:

A curved bar adorned with Christmas lights and a larger rear section with tables and chairs make up this low-ceilinged basement space. Old-timers and struggling young writers in the first stages of alcoholism are welcome; chino-clad frat boys get glares. This is neither a pickup bar nor an intimate nightcap spot. With the drinks coming in well below $5, this is the kind of place where you dump your girlfriend or go to hide.

Do they serve cans of PBR?

    I love that place.

On a vacation that I'll write about shortly, a group of us was under multiple influences, and my boy Adrian got in my face late at night when we were running very low on beers. He said, "Would you like the warm PBR in a can or the cold Newcastle in a bottle." Those were the only two beers left for the entire group, and it was a rhetorical question.

Newcastle is overrated just like Rex Grossman and yes, I'm a Bears fan. Domestics! God bless the USA! Now where did I put my medication?!?

I don't think Newcastle is overrated, but a cold bottle of Bud can seldom be bettered.

Little Kings for little queens, eh? That beer, er, cream ale, is awful.
